Recreating My Instagram Feed

Oct 25, 2025

I’m going to leave Instagram and take my content with me.

Already downloaded all my data and will figure out how to recreate the entire feed on my website.

stay tuned…

Documentation turns out to be more difficult than I thought.

Anyways, I let the idea simmer in the background for the past months and set Chinese New Year on Feb 16, 2026 as a deadline to finally take the leap. Initially, I was determined to figure out the technical implementation on my own (with AI help of course).

However, thank God for the mysterious ways the universe works, I stumbled upon the Homebrew Website Club and joined a meeting a few days ago in Düsseldorf. It took place in a library café where I used to go frequently. What are the chances. Had a super interesting evening talking about everything website-related with cool people.
When I shared about my plan to recreate the IG feed on my website, Daniel mentioned that apparently a guy named Greg from HWC did exactly that already a few months ago and he shared the repo with me.

I never assumed I would be the only one who had this idea, but I probably never would have found this information myself. This is also one of the very few times in my life I’ve cloned and worked on another repository, since I’m not a developer.
But everything was well documented and this is my current Instagram duplicate.

Some problems that I’m facing:

  • Reels are not being shown
  • Comments & Likes are not included (I also couldn’t find them in the export file)
